last night was Curtis Eller's American Circus at the lager house. well color me all kinds of blown away! this was probably about the last thing i would have really expected to get into, but was still super curious nonetheless. (read: nothing electronic aside from a banjo that plugged in, i didn't think that they did that, hoo-ray for the 21st century.) this guy sure can tell a tall twisted tale - somewhere between the nostalgia of old bawdy songs, drunken ballads and modern incarnations thereof a la nick cave crossed with PT Barnum, but with his own special somewhat nerdy and super physical flavor. SO physical he ended up with quite an ankle injury following a PT Barnum song, and being that i have my own corner office reserved in Hell i thought it was part of the show as a way to garner sympathy to aid in selling cd's (it worked), but sadly it wasn't. i hope he's ok. Hell can't be hotter than this summer, can it?
tonight is the international freedom festival - i'm looking quite forward to my first time in detroit ever viewing the fireworks - there is a bevy of 6th floors to watch them from. apparently they are better viewed with 3d glasses this time, but then again, what isn't.
and tomorrow night is the first night of the tastefest! Thursday, June 30 2005, Ghostly International and Dorkwave.com present Team Dorkwave [6:30pm] + Solvent [8:30pm] - the Pure Detroit Stage is where to be. Solvent is one of my current favorite projects, excited isn't even the proper word...
full disclosure coming soon of the legendary nyc trip this weekend, i promise. these updates are a little out of order, but hey, what isn't. ;) this summer sure is shaping up to be that summer.

Curtis is on the mend after a nasty sprain at his Detroit gig. Thanks to everyone who helped out, much appreciated. He loved the place and wants to play there again real soon. ~Jamie (Curtis's wife.)
Great work!
