a friday night in detroit

don't ever say that nothing goes on around here. last night was downright scary in that regard. but awesome.

last night started off with a visit to Pure Detroit design lab's opening party introducing the Sarah's WOUND. i ended up doing some damage by buying the muslin and black rubber jodhpurs made by Samantha Bullock, the exact ones i wore in her show about two months back.

i wanted them then and seeing them there now...well, it just had to be done. besides, supporting other local designers is good karma, right? the above dress is what i really wanted to go home with...but i exhibited some restraint...for once. ;) next i want to get a piece from lauren as well.

i'm REALLY excited to put my work in Pure Detroit design lab as well as cranbrook art museum store later this week. sneak peeks on what i've been working on soon...nothing on my site is current.

next it was off to the detroit by design party at the bankle building, where Kelly Pink-o beyond a doubt, stole the whole show.

can you really get any better than sleazy electropunky noise with homebrewed teen gay porn projections? i don't think so. (ok, there was other content to the video but that..um...grabbed my attention.) and some stellar lyrics something to the effect of "i had a son, just so i could fuck him..." (don't quote me on that, the vodka was good.) and it was his first performance. color me all kinds of blown away. it had the feeling of the first Psychic TV show about 25 years ago. not that i was there, but i bet it would have had energy like this. seriously. there is something going on in our fair town - whether it is in the water or the polluted air has reached creatively mutagenic proportions, there is something really going on with this new crop of 20ish year olds. of course there is something concurrently going on with the 30ish set...but it is very different. ;)

just got a sneak preview of some hot design and photography from yet another of those young-un prodigies, jimmy edgar - strictly politic design

next up at detroit by design: A CELEBRATION OF SKATEBOARD ART & CULTURE DETROIT BY DESIGN PRESENTS: "It's Okay, We're Here" Our biggest show of the year curated by senoir editor of New York's Paper Magazine, Carlo McCormick
and D.I.A. photo curator, Nancy Barr. This exhibition will showcase professional skateboarders, runway shows and intelligent dance music. The event will be a live set for a L.A. film crew's documentary on Detroit living legend, Camilo Pardo

next it was off to oslo for ryan elliot's set, he killed it, it was danceariffic. i do recall some of that infamous techno tangoing going on....

anyway, that's it from me on all that.

inlieuof is at smalls tonight. off to make coffee and collect my braincells.
