German Sunday

blogging out of order...but bah, oh well! linear thought is overrated anyway.

Got up quite surprisingly early on Sunday for an excellent brunch at the Majestic Cafe, (somehow we politely declined the "bottomless" bloody marys...) I highly recommend the Dirty Eggs!

Then it was time for afternoon adventure, with a drive up to Frankenmuth - I feel further assimilated as a Detroiter now, having one more of the celebrated cheesy tourist attraction under my belt. In addition to the culinary institution with battle axes on the wall - The Baviarian Inn - we meandered around a bevy of strange little stores and collectible shops, most notably Rau's Country Store and Frankenmuth Toy Company - both of which are very, very bizarre. The Toy Company was full of a bunch of German made (duh) and other European toys that also fit the bill of bizarre and wrong -- such as the Playmobil Haz Mat Team, which will now lovingly accompany me at my desk.

We looked to see if they had a Riot Gear playset, but to no avail. The hospital one was rather nifty, and may be next on the list.

Finishing the day of All Things Stange and German But Not Really German was curling up and watching The Institute Benjamenta (1996) by the Brother's Quay.

"There's but one lesson repeated endlessly, none of us will amount to much. Later in life we will be something small and subordinate."
