Detroit architecture before and after

Just in case anyone has been hiding under a rock, much of the old architecture in Detroit has been disappearing at an alarming rate.

I documented this brick victorian house near the intersection of Park Ave. and Sproat St. July 18, 2005.

Here is is last weekend, Jan. 8, 2006. What a difference six months makes:

Granted, I come to this from a preservationist angle, this house was not in great shape by any means, but it was certainly salvageable, in my opinion. There were plenty of details still intact, but I am not an engineer so I can't really properly speculate on the soundness of the entire structure. Given the proximity of this to the parking lot that is being made out of the Mowtown buildings, I suspect this will be a dirt lot in no time.

You might want to grab a brick.
