fur

Quick post while I take a break and unglue my fingers - working on a big project, more to be disclosed on that at a later time. :)

Something really grossed me out while getting supplies at the fabric store the other day. They were selling real fur trim on rolls, dyed in "fun colors," some fringed and sewn into little balls. The fashion industry is so saturated with it now, people are desensitized and even a few times I've noticed myself being seduced by the luxury of it. This was at the happy homemaker fabric store, not a specialty or wholesale shop. This stuff was displayed just like any other trim.

Trent Resnor recently did a video on the Chinese fur industry for PETA - like or hate his music, like or hate PETA - and often I do not personally agree with much of PETA's politics - it is an informitive piece on the fur trade that specifically deals with trims and collars, which seem to adorn nearly everything these days, haute to bargain bin. Much of the cheap fur for embellishments comes from cats and dogs in China, where there is no regulation. Take a look at the video, it is graphic and unsettling, but unfortunately the truth.
