Detroit: City on the Move (1965) Promotional film made for the City of Detroit, an unsuccessful bidder for the Olympic Games. With views of city highways, automobile manufacturing, a diverse population, and social activities, all shot prior to the city's economic decline. The architectural models and propaganda are incredible, they even show an outdoor night shot of the Brass Rail, of which I proudly have a song request card. From what I have heard of the Brass Rail, it wasn't exactly Grandma's dinner theater. I love how they speak of "ethnic relations and "international goodwill"and show people dancing in lederhosen.
Speaking of the Olympics and Detroit, tonight is the opening ceremonies for the 2006 Winter Games, with our very own Mr. Hawtin collaborating on scoring the music. This is a *much* better way for Detroit to participate in sports. ;)
