This past Saturday the cement silos on the waterfront were demolished for future development of the Riverwalk, some say they were ugly, but this was one of my favorite signs -Medusa Cement- in all of Detroit. These structures were not abandoned, they were in use up to a few months ago, but redevelopment plans outsted this "eyesore" to elsewhere.
Of course Denmark is a very different place and economy, but some very well-designed apartments were made from converted silos - both making way for some amazing new architecture and preserving a piece of the industrial past.

Dude Detroit is turning into New Orleans.
I really dug the medusa silos myself. It s a total bummer that they demolished them. They just tore down my favorite silos ever back in my hometown of Buffalo. the ho oats silos ( http://www.pbase.com/kjosker/image/39189667 ). They tore the ho oats silos to build a casino. kills me.
Good design!
