weekend overview

This weekend was most excellent, and very necessary on a bevy of levels. There has been a whole lot of working going on 'round these parts lately and the work hard/play hard ratio was getting seriously out of balance. I think the equation is well rectified now.



Friday night was Misc. (Christopher Bleckmann and Hannes Wenner) at Oslo. Sender historically has had some amazing releases, with folks like T.Raumschmiere, Pan/Tone and Jake Fairley but Misc.'s last one Like Morning in Your Eyes is really a standout in well crafted, electro synthy thickness. Maximal Techno might be a good way to describe - simplicity in structure but hugeness in sounds and layers of evil buzziness. For some reason I was a little apprehensive of seeing them live and only decided to go at the last minute, but I'm sure glad I did as I was completely blown away by the energy of their live set, how much they were actually crafting live - and the sound was incredible, with the plaster literally shaking off the walls in varous places, which was perfect material for harmless prankstering later on. ;)

Saturday night was Sass with residents Coitus Interruptus aka Nathan Rapport & Mike Servito. Even though it is always one of my favorite nights in Detroit, this particular Sass was on. We can never get enough Morrissey and Depeche Mode, can we? Yay! After that we headed over to a dear friend's house party, played some records and watched the sun come up.

Of course this is all in prepartation for next weekend which promises even more insanity with St. Patricks' Day Bandwidth with Toybreaker at The WORKS and Vitalic live + DethLab at Oslo.

Now on to working hard again!

There's nothing like waking up way after sunup in the pitch dark to a thunderstorm - very disorienting - and tornado watch for later this afternoon. I love exciting waether. Is this really March?
