Afternoon Detroit Architecture

Detroit becomes Venice

hotseat

These three were taken near Atwater Street late this afternoon, I'll have many more to share soon, the light was very cooperative for a while. Much of the Atwater area is disappearing for the proposed renovation of the waterfront - many of the old buildings of questionable repute seem to be coincidentally vanishing due to fire all at once and immediately are being bulldozed over. Curious I say. One such structure still smelled of fire today, it was the last one standing among countless new dirt lots. It rained a few days ago, but a few of the Atwater area streets (and a few in the Market) are looking rather Venetian, me thinks there is a bit of a drainage issue.

Probably more commentary on this later, I need to process it a bit before vomiting it to the internets, but an incident today really had me questioning why I photograph these things in Detroit, and if my alleged preserving glimpses of beauty among ruin is really valid or just yet another arrogant and exploitive venture by a priveledged white kid.
