another one down

I was just looking through the archives of friend and fellow explorer SNWEB.org, and he has some excellent information on the Sanders Building, aka Mowtown Building, at 2457 Woodward Ave. Detroit. It was just demolished for yet another parking lot for the StupidBowl. As reported Friday in the Detroit Free Press:

The former headquarters of Motown Records, on Woodward and the Fisher Freeway, soon will be demolished, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said Thursday. For nearly three decades, it was an abandoned, graffiti-scarred symbol of business flight from the city.

The mayor said work will proceed so quickly that the site will be used for parking during the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. After that, the city will market the property to developers.

I was just photographing in the area last weekend and noticed the work going on - I had thought they were doing Asbestos abatement for renovation, not demolition. As usual, I was sadly wrong. More on this soon.
