The former headquarters of Motown Records, on Woodward and the Fisher Freeway, soon will be demolished, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said Thursday. For nearly three decades, it was an abandoned, graffiti-scarred symbol of business flight from the city.
The mayor said work will proceed so quickly that the site will be used for parking during the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. After that, the city will market the property to developers.

I was just photographing in the area last weekend and noticed the work going on - I had thought they were doing Asbestos abatement for renovation, not demolition. As usual, I was sadly wrong. More on this soon.
