San Francisco Part 2

Let's forget about Detroit for the time being, on to Part Two of San Francisco.

Saturday afternoon finally some blue sky peeked through - we had our wonderful afternoon at the spa and any shred of stress (was there really any to begin with?) was thoroughly removed. Time to bid adieu to Mill Valley - the area was so beautiful, I hope they didn't have to endure any more flooding, things were looking a little sketchy when we left. Now it was off to San Francisco, this time on purpose...

The bridge again..this time with blue sky!

We headed over the bridge and on to our good friend Nix's fabulously cute apartment in Lower Nob Hill which is right on the edge of the Tenderloin - some of that area can be a little dodgy, but not nearly like our dear home! ;) After a bit of catching up we set out to explore and properly fuel up for the trouble we would no doubt find later on. We wandered a bit up some hills designed only for mules and decided on the House of Nanking which Brian alleged was the best Chinese food in the city. I think he was quite right, not that we had anything even remotely resembling poor quality food there, but this owned. We were really not permitted to order from the menu - the server barked, chicken, beef, fish - what you want! - exactly the kind of adventure we were up for - Michael ended up with the most amazing crispy fish in a brown sauce and I got some squid in a chili, garlic and white sauce that was to die for - you can always measure the quality of a restaurant by its non-rubberband-esque squid. yum.

With New Year's Eve qickly approaching, many shops and cafes were starting to shut down, we quickly grabbed some cappuccino and wandered a bit more, and were happy to find OMG SKULLZ:

Used skulls. WTF?!?!

There was some pretty incredible authentic and quality Tibetan art and artifacts inside, and yes, also some used skulls. We headed back, via scenic route, to Nix's and schemed about what the rest of the night would bring.

The drunken phone calls from the Dorkwave New Year's Eve Gala started to ring in and we headed off to party one, which was hosted at my old BU friend's loft in the mission.

We were feeling the antsy need to bounce around so we headed over to RX which also had some pretty interesting paintings (in addition to Sake-tinis) from the Love and Other Natural Disasters show:

Mmmm...venison!

After that total ridiculousness ensued, followed by the most extreme installment of Dude, Where's my Car? (Even the SF towing dept. didn't know...then again, they don't know where "lost" cars live. heh.) anyway...

I'll leave you with the fruits of a prominent industrial designer:

Necessity is indeed the mother of all invention!

Sunday was the day of rest. We had "breakfast" at a great local greasy spoon diner which somehow was still fresh and amazing (bless the food in SF) and a late showing of the new Producers.

Part Three tomorrow.
