Last night we had the pleasure of attending the opening reception for WHEN PHILIP MET ISABELLA - Philip Treacy’s Hats for Isabella Blow - I can not stress enough what an incredible exhibit this is and how lucky we are to have it in our area. The entire show just traveled from the Design Museum in London and will be on view at Cranbrook through Aug. 27. For anyone tickled by the dark, decadent and mysterious, this showing should not be missed. The pieces are installed beautifully, the entry wall is painted a shocking pink and the remainder of the interior is a deep charcoal grey, lit very dimly and many of the vitrines are pooled with Swarovski crystals. The final room is a stunning and beautifully edited video projection of his couture collections. Never have I been so emotionally moved by visual work, it is usually music that gets to me that viscerally. While walking out to the peristyle, we had the pleasure of meeting the charming Mr. Treacy (who was also as well put-together as his hats) - I was a starstruck little twit, especially when he introduced himself and punctuated it with "and who are you, are you in a band?!?" Ummm... ? (nah...we just match anyway.)

That seemed to be the bizarre theme of the evening, I think I need to do a little limited run on those millitary coats we were wearing. ;) Goddamn you impending hellish doom of summer in not letting me go crazy with my cache of authentic WWII wool dress jackets! Curses. (Pictures of that to follow soon as well.)

I'll be properly photographing the exhibition mid week, I can wait to see it all again!

Following the Treacy opening, we had an excellent dinner at Vinotecca in Royal Oak - They've changed their menu up a bit since the last time we've been there. Highly recommended!

Then it was off to The Nice Device's cd release party at the Magic Bag - Mr. Doyle did the artwork and it came out *so* well. (stabby stabby stabby!) Unfortunately things were running a little late and I have zero patience for boring rock shows, so we didn't get to hear them, but we did still make it to Oslo in time for Vault! (and we are proud to have a suuuper seekrit copy of the new Audion Rave Anthem of the Century, in hand!)
